DALLAS (SBG) — Some penguins at the Dallas Zoo received a special treat on Wednesday for Penguin Awareness Day when staff released bubbles in their exhibit.

"Did you know that penguins love bubbles just as much as we do?!" the Dallas Zoo posted in part on Facebook.

The Dallas Zoo explains that bubbles are also a great way for humans to celebrate and make a fantastic alternative to releasing balloons into the atmosphere. Balloons can create a hazard to wildlife, especially penguins, the zoo said.

"Balloons can travel thousands of miles when released, landing in waterways and floating to penguin habitats, where they are ingested by penguins who mistake them for food items. Luckily, when you choose to use bubbles to celebrate, you ensure that you and your colony are having the most penguin friendly celebration ever!" the Dallas Zoo said.
